The origin

FROM A BOTTLE

LAKKART takes shape from an unexpected episode: the discovery of a bottle containing a letter.

"During a solitary walk along the beach of the Lido of Venice, among the seaweed and the reflections of the water, I noticed a bottle."

THE INSPIRATION

FROM A LETTER

"Inside, rolled up, I saw a yellowed sheet of paper. Curiosity drove me to open it immediately, sitting there at the spot where it had been found."

A letter dated 1980 from the village of Kholui, written by Iryna. Her story evoked many memories of her deceased grandmother, including her meticulous work on small lacquered boxes.

"I don't know why that bottle was there, nor how it ended up on the Venetian shores, but I know what I felt: a subtle call, as if fate had left me a task."

THE TRADITION

FOUR MASTERS, ONE WORK
  • SHAPE

The box is formed from overlapping layers of papier-mâché, shaped and pressed around a mold. After slow drying, the structure is finished and assembled.

  • SURFACE

The frame is impregnated with linseed oil and baked to enhance its stability and durability. This is followed by painstaking sanding and the application of a primer.

  • PAINTING

With lacquering, the interior is covered in red and the exterior in deep black. On the smooth surface, the miniaturist traces an initial composition, establishing balance and rhythm before the color takes shape.

  • MASTERPIECE

The painting is completed with thin layers of egg tempera, enriched with gold details and decorations. The process ends with final layers of transparent lacquer, dried and polished by hand, sealing the miniature in its mirror-like brilliance.

  • "From that day on, an immense curiosity about Russian lacquer miniatures was born within me. I decided to follow that thin thread.

Books and articles, followed by the first works purchased by the aspiring collector. And then, the journey...

The destination? I'll surprise you, Russia. Among the various stops, I had the opportunity to visit the four villages, the four art schools (Palekh, Mstera, Fedoskino, and Kholui), as well as Moscow, of course, and curious neighboring towns, less touristy but equally rich in culture.

This is how LAKKART was born: from a message from a stranger, from a fragment of memory thrown into the sea, from the courage to open the doors that life places before us.

Each box is a fragment of this story. Each box is a response to that bottle.

Every person who purchases and chooses to keep one of the works selected by LAKKART is a new friend of that lady, like a bright dot on the world map, which collects and protects her message.

CALLE SPECCHIERI, 422 - VENICE
  • A stone's throw from Piazza San Marco, LAKKART takes shape: a miniature, intimate and cozy art gallery.

Burgundy walls, black lacquered display cases, and warm lighting create a dialogue between shadow and reflection, designed to enhance the depth of the surfaces and the luminosity of the gold.

Venice, a crossroads of cultures and a bridge between East and West, thus becomes the ideal place to host this artistic dialogue: fairy tales and legends meet the Venetian imagination in a unique aesthetic and cultural fusion.

Not a boutique, but a small theater of light and silence, where time slows and art becomes intimate and alive. A space designed for an authentic encounter with the beauty of lacquered art.

"We are the living bridge of this ancient technique, the voice of these artists."
