In the silence of the night, the Firebird spreads its golden wings, igniting the deep black background of this miniature like a luminous apparition. Young Ivan reaches toward the light, while the little horse remains steady and alert, a symbol of loyalty and ingenuity. In this balance between earth and sky, the enchantment of Pyotr Ershov 's fairy tale " The Little Humpbacked Horse" is fulfilled: a suspended moment in which courage dares to touch the miracle.

THE PAINTING
The scene depicts one of the trials faced by Ivan inPyotr Ershov 's fairy tale " The Little Humpbacked Horse" : the capture of the Firebird . The young hero, captured in a slender, ascending pose, reaches out to the luminous creature hovering above him, suspended in a star-studded sky. The composition is strongly vertical: from the rocky, plant-filled base, the gaze moves up Ivan's figure to the bird's outstretched wings, in a continuous movement. The momentum is restrained, suspended between wonder and determination. Beside him, the little Humpbacked Horse observes the scene, a discreet yet decisive presence, an emblem of cunning and loyalty. The lacquered black background intensifies the luminosity of the figures, while the Firebird , rendered in iridescent golden hues, emerges as an almost sacred apparition. The vegetal scrolls and ornamental elements construct a rhythmic frame that envelops the whole with balance. The colors interact in a balanced way between warm and deep tones: the amber luminescence of the clothes and the bird is highlighted against saturated, nocturnal greens. The gilding, applied with restraint in the details and profiles, flows through the composition like threads of light, lending the scene an internal, controlled luminosity.
