LACQUERED BOX
With its distinctive shape, this elegant little box tells, like a poem in images, the tale of Ruslan and Lyudmila by Alexander Pushkin . The miniature, developed in multiple side-by-side scenes, follows the flow of the narrative as in an ancient illustrated manuscript, where each episode is part of a greater destiny.

THE PAINTING
The composition is divided into three narrative registers, organised as a continuous sequence that develops from left to right.
On the left,Ruslan 's journey unfolds: the hero rides through forests and golden paths on horseback, facing trials and enigmatic presences that emerge from the shadows. The movement is dynamic, oriented toward the center, as if all the narrative energy were converging toward liberation.
At the center appears Lyudmila , a luminous, suspended figure, captive in the enchanted domain of the wizard Chernomor ; captured in a moment of expectation and enchantment before a fairy-tale architecture of towers, arches, and domes. Her stable verticality constitutes the visual fulcrum of the work, around which the entire story unfolds.
On the right, the story's conclusion unfolds: Ruslan has saved Lyudmila and is leading her away with him. The horses advance with impetus through hills and distant cities, suggesting return, fulfillment, and reconciliation. The central tension dissolves into harmony, and the landscape opens up into a more relaxed and luminous vision.
The dark lacquered background unifies the three moments, while the intense, warm colors—deep reds, vibrant greens, luminous ochres—establish continuity between the scenes. The subtle gold decorations frame the narrative without interrupting its flow, guiding the eye along the narrative path. The work thus takes the form of a condensed fairy tale: where love and courage intertwine with magic in a balance of great miniature refinement.
